Bear Mattress Review – Best Mattress To Recover?

Brand Snapshot

Bear was founded in 2015 and has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of sleep for active people. The company is backed by athletes, doctors, and fitness fans. It has created a niche in the mattress market by marketing its products as tools to post-workout recovery.

The brand sells more than just the all-foam Bear we are reviewing. They also sell a hybrid mattress, adjustable bases, pillows, sheets, and sheets. We will compare the original Bear with its hybrid counterpart a little later in this review. Also, we will also evaluate it against the Casper and Purple mattresses.

Let’s first take off the cover to see what’s inside the original all foam Bear.

The Bear Mattress

What Is The Bear Mattress Made Of?

What Is The Bear Mattress Made Of

The Bear is a mattress that comes in a box with a 25 cm profile. It’s made of two layers of memory foam and two layers of poly foam. This mixture of materials creates a structure that is as supportive as it is pressure-relieving. The Celliant cover is designed to maximize recovery.

CoverCelliant is a material suggested by some studies to be the Bear cover.Could help you to fall asleep better. The cover is soft and cozy, despite its purported benefits.

Take a closer look at the Bear mattress

ComfortBear starts things off by placing a section of memory foam 5 cm in front. The material is slow to respond to pressure and allows the sleeper to sink into it for some.Instant pressure relief for the hips and shoulders. This is especially useful for those who are active and need to relieve tension after a workout. This layer has graphite infused into it, which is a cooling agent that reduces memory foam’s tendency to trap and absorb body heat.

TransitionThe next layer is a transition layer made of poly foam. This layer has a firmer feel than the memory foam, and is intended to reduce some of the sinkage from the section above. It also helps position the sleeper.More on the top of the structure than inside it.

BaseThis 15 cm high-density section of poly foam makes up the bulk of the mattress. The bed’s foundation is set by the sturdy material, i.e. A lot ofSupport from a firm. Already I know the Bear is best-suited to my needsBack sleepersThose who require relief from the lower back but still have enough mobility to move about and change positions.

ThoughtsCombining taut poly foam and gentle memory foam creates an interesting structure that combines a lot of lift with a lot of give.

This design is great for back or combo sleepers who need pressure relief but don’t want to be stuck in a bed.Materials used to make the Bear mattress layers

How Does The Bear Mattress Feel?

How Does The Bear Mattress Feel

Let’s now look at the Bears materials. We will start with firmness.

Firmness, like any other feel factor, is subjective and can vary based on one’s body size, shape and weight. It is why I always try to include a variety of opinions in this section. I will not only share my personal views on the firmness of the beds, but also three perspectives from my coworkers.

Below is the average score of all ratings.

The Bear is firmer than many foam mattresses.

The Bear mattress’ firmness was a subject of general agreement. We rated it on average at 7/10. This mattress seems a little firmer than the industry standard of 6.5, which is for medium firmness.

The bed received a 7 from me personally, as the double poly foam construction was easy to use.Firm, supportive feeling. Although you may sink into the memory foam top layer, this sinkage can be curtailed by the transitional layer of taut poly foam. This is what it meansMost people will be located higher up than inside the structure. This could be especially useful for combination and back sleepers. For side sleepers who are more rigid, this firmness may cause tension in the hips and shoulders as their bodies dig into it.

Pressure Relief

I look at the pressure relief of a mattress to see if it can relieve tension in sensitive areas like the hips and lower back.

A pressure map is a great tool to help you figure it all out. This device is easy to use. I just lay it out and then hop on top of it. The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and creates a colored map showing any pressure points. Blue areas are designated as low pressure, while red is for high pressure.

BackIt was a great feeling.Amazing comfortAs I stretched out on the back, The top layer of memory foam was a great addition to the area around my lumbar region. It provided support and pressure relief for my spine. Although I felt some sinkage in the bed, the two layers poly foam at the base kept my head up.

The Bear mattress is a great option for back sleepers.

SideThis comfort did not translate to my side unfortunately.

Some people were attracted to the firmness of their bed.
Jamming at my hips, shoulders and chestTension flared up in these areas when I pressed into my mattress. Side sleepers who are very sensitive to the touch will need to pay attention to a soft structure that contours to their sensitive areas.

StomachIt was actually very relaxing to turn onto my stomach! The support layers of poly foam placed my hips on top, which allowed me to stretch out in a prone position.Pleasant alignment with my shoulders.

The Bear mattress is a great all-foam option for stomach sleepers.

Motion Transfer

I will be testing the Bears motion transfer. This is the amount of movement that can be detected from one side to the other of the bed. This section is especially relevant for those who share a bed with a partner. It will give you insight into the disturbances you might feel when they turn and toss in the night.

I dropped 5kg to illustrate motion transfer. I dropped a steel ball at heights of 10, 20 and 30 cm. The disturbance it caused was measured.

Results of motion transfer tests for the Bear mattress

These results are not exceptional in motion transfer and they indicate to me thatYou shouldn’t be bothered by the nighttime movements of your bed-mate.. This is due to the memory foam layer on top, which dampens movement throughout the structure.

Purple

  • Although the Purple is a popular mattress-in-a box, it has a different feel than the Bear. This is due to the fact that it comes with a unique, soft cover.Smart comfort grid made of hyper-elastic polymer.
  • This grid is made up of aCooling and bouncyMaterial, which could make it great for hot-sleeping couples.
  • This collapsible grid, in my opinion, is also great at relieving tension at the hips and shoulders as well as lower back.
  • The Purple, which is for a Twin, starts at theMost expensiveThe bed of the lot.

The Original Bear must not only compete with the rest of the world, but also face stiff competition from its brother, the Bear Hybrid.

Bear Hybrid

  • Both beds have memory foam but the Hybrid has a section of bouncy that gives it a little more power.Pocketed coils.
  • This creates a medium-sized firm structure.Plenty of liftsThis could be great for anyone who needs a little more mobility.
  • Despite that, I was impressed by the bed’s capacity for pressure relief and would recommend it.Side sleepers.
  • It’s quite simple to get started. The all-foam Bear is more expensive.
