Electronics Giant Nokia Launches A Sleep Tracking Pad

Nokia is not new to the world of health gadgets. They offer smart weights, heart rate monitors, and a food and health tracking app.

Nokia has launched a new sleep tracking pad. This is described by Nokia as an advanced sensor embedded in a mattress pad. The tiny, WiFi-enabled gadget fits under your mattress to monitor your sleep quality. It is designed to be placed at chest level so that it can track your heart and respirations.

The pad gives you an in-depth view of how you slept when you wake up. It starts with your sleep score. It then breaks down your sleep duration, time taken to fall asleep, wake up, sleep cycles (deep, light, and REM), heart rate, sleep quality, and even whether you slept through the night. Important: You must plug in the sleep pad. Sleep-goers should have their bed near a power outlet.

If you are a fan of automating your sleep, IFTTT integration is available. This allows you to trigger your bedtime routines, such as having the lights or white noise machine turn on when you go to sleep or turning up the heat when you get up in the morning. All this information can be accessed in Nokia’s Health Mate app which is included free of charge with the tracking pad.

It measures 64 cm long, 19 cm wide and 1 cm thick. You can order it online right now

This is not the first sleep tracker pad to hit the marketplace. Withings, which was later acquired by Nokia, launched Aura in 2014. This smart pad light combo also plays soothing sounds while you sleep. The Aura received mixed reviews online and is no longer available on Nokia’s website.

Not all trackers are accurate. The sleep tracker could be activated if a pet or bed partner moves in the bed. A few studies have also been done that draw conclusions about the inefficiency of sleep trackers.

Wearable sleep trackers are becoming more popular. However, most people don’t realize that their claims often outweigh the scientific evidence supporting them as tools to improve and measure sleep.

It might be smart to use a sleep tracker as a tool in your toolbox, rather than relying solely on them to get the best night’s sleep.
