Broadway Actors Get Ready For Fundraising Sleepout At Covenant House New York

Covenant House, an international non-profit organization, is collaborating with Broadway professionals to coordinate its sixth annual Sleep Out: Stage and Screen New York City on Aug 20th to raise money for homeless youth.

Just blocks away from Broadway Theaters in New York City is a community made up of Broadway actors and professionals in the TV and film industries. They will be joining the Covenant House New York staff at 7pm. They will stay until 7am the next morning. The event will be held outside, as usual.Covenant House provides sponsored sleepers with sleeping bags and, sometimes, a cardboard box in which to spend the night. The sleepers will need to find sponsors and raise as many funds as possible – all money that goes directly to Covenant House resources.

Colleen Veldt, peer-to-peer director at Covenant House, told Sleepopolis that Covenant House has been able to get over 1.5 million young adults off of the streets into its shelters by sleeping out.

Veldt said that we pride ourselves in being more than a shelter for homeless people. We are helping children in very difficult times in their lives. We provide resources to help them in their time of greatest need, and keep them from falling further.

She continued to state that Sleep Out: Stage and Screen was a special event and will host performers and crew members from many Broadway shows. But not every Broadway professional can sleep out with the crew in August. You must be at least 23 and have a commitment to raising at least €0 to participate in this event.

So That Others Can Sleep In, SLEEP OUT

Participants in the upcoming sleepout have collectively set the goal to raise It might seem overwhelming, but13 participants have already contributed nearly €30,000 in sponsored donations. Covenant Houses’ VP of Public Relations Tom Manning stated to Sleepopolis, that although they do raise money via traditional methods like direct mail and donations from foundations and corporations, sleeping out is their most reliable source of funding.

Screen and Stage sleepers are divided into teams, usually based on the Broadway show in which they appeared.Broadway Ushers United and Team Frozen are the teams assembled for this event. Strangelove is the top sleep-out team, while Strangelove is the bottom team.. Rachel Brosnahan, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star, is the team captain. She will be in charge of organizing the fundraising efforts. Her team has raised over €200,000 already.

Veldt stated that Broadway’s participants aren’t homeless and that everyone should sleep outdoors, but there is always an indoor option for those who have an immediate need.Participants are not required to finish their 24-hour sleep-out, and many participants have failed to do so according to Veldt.. Veldt continued to tell me how he was unable to sleep outside for one night, which should be a sign of how difficult it is to spend.EverywhereNight outside is dangerous, so it is important to have a safe place for sleep.

Veldt shared his thoughts with Sleepopolis about the Sleep Out: Stage and Screen. He said it was a wonderful experience to have them in our home and that they are so good with our children. It’s going to be an amazing event.
